Art Gallery hosts Marcellous Lovelace show

The Kishwaukee College Art Gallery will feature the works of Marcellous Lovelace in an exhibition titled Exposed Emotions: Broken Urban Narratives. The show will run through October 30. The Gallery hours for Fall 2014 are Monday through Thursday 10:00a.m. — 6:00p.m. The Kishwaukee College Art Gallery is free and open to the public.
Lovelace considers himself an Afro Urban Indigenous Folk Artist — drawing inspiration from the impoverished areas of Chicago's south side that he calls home. His works are created via painting in mixed media with found materials. He explained, "I paint from my experience living on the South Side of Chicago and living in poverty in the State of Illinois. I use found objects throughout the City of Chicago and the State of Illinois as reference of my surroundings in my work. I work on everything from old found pieces of paper, garbage cans, tires, mattresses and used construction material found from torn down buildings."
His works are vibrant yet unabashedly honest in their depiction of life lived with hope amid the hopelessness. He stated, "For most of my adult life I have worked on Art regardless of the situation and I always will, because these colorful problems help me to continue to see through the blight."
